Nourish the American Dream

1 in 5 kids in America faces hunger.

For millions of children across the country, when school is out, meals disappear. Weekends, holidays, and summer break can mean uncertainty about where their next meal will come from.

Here in Northwest Oregon, families across Columbia, Clatsop, and Tillamook counties feel that same strain. When budgets are tight and school meal programs pause, local food banks, school backpack programs, and community partners work together to help fill the gap—but the need is still too great.

Our nation was founded on a shared vision of coming together for a better future. Nearly 250 years later, we’re called again to unite around a simple idea: every child deserves access to healthy food and the chance to thrive.

Because the American Dream starts with a full plate.

This July 4, in honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the Albertsons Companies Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors program is launching Nourish the American Dream—a bold, nationwide movement to help end childhood hunger.

United Way of Northwest Oregon is proud to join partners across the country in this effort to nourish every child’s potential in our region.

From July 1–7, every dollar raised locally supports our hunger relief efforts here at home and contributes to the national $5 million goal helping more children access the food they need to grow and thrive.

The American Dream starts with a full plate—and funding that full plate starts with all of us.
